Coaching Staff
Head Coach | Mac “Mel” Cochrane
They began their women’s rugby journey at the University of North Carolina in 2015, as a scrum-half before transitioning to fly-half. In their senior year, 2018-2019, they took on the roles of team captain and president. During university, they also served as a student manager for the UNC Women’s Soccer team.
Returning to their alma mater in 2020, as an assistant coach heading up the backs and offense, they found their true passion within the sport, coaching. They have also coached the Carolina Geographical Union’s U23 XVs Selects team. Fall 2023 marks their first season serving as head coach for UNC Women’s Rugby.
Adapting to changing landscapes, they transitioned from D1 Commissioner of the Blue Ridge Conference within USA Rugby to the D1 Commissioner of SARC (South Atlantic Rugby Conference) for the Fall 2023 season when the conference moved to the NCR (National Collegiate Rugby).
