Head Coach | Matthew “Mac” Zara

Mac began his rugby journey at UNC in 2015 as a scrum-half, serving as team captain and president from 2018 – 2019. He also worked as a student manager for the UNC Women’s Soccer team during his time as a student. He returned to UNC in 2021 as an assistant coach leading the backs and offense, where he found his true passion: coaching.

Beyond the pitch, Mac lives with his wife, Cas, and their black cat, Nyx. When he’s not coaching, he’s usually traveling, listening to R&B, playing Nintendo, or building/creating something.
